Samantha Shannon er en britisk forfatter innen fantasy. Hun fikk sitt internasjonale gjennombrudd med Priory of the Orange Tree i 2019 som er en storslått og sapfisk fantasyroman løst basert på sagnet om Sankt Georg og dragen. Boken er inspirert av både engelske, afrikanske og asiatiske legender.
Det har senere kommet to prequel-bøker i samme serie: A Day of Fallen Night (2023) og Among the Burning Flowers (2025). Men det er ikke alt, Shannon har blant annet også gitt ut dystopien The Bone Season, som det er planlagt å utvide til en serie på sju bøker (det har kommet fire bøker så langt). Miljøet i bøkene er basert på Oxford, der Shannon har studert, og hun føyer seg dermed pent til en lang rekke forfattere som har latt seg inspirere av den historiske, engelske universitetsbyen.

Samantha Shannon is a British author of fantasy. She achieved her international breakthrough with The Priory of the Orange Tree in 2019, a grand and sapphic fantasy novel loosely based on the legend of Saint George and the dragon. The book is inspired by English, African, and Asian legends alike.
Two prequel books in the same series have since been released: A Day of Fallen Night (2023) and Among the Burning Flowers (2025). But that’s not all, Shannon has also published the dystopian novel The Bone Season, which is planned to expand into a series of seven books (four have been released so far). The setting of the books is based on Oxford, where Shannon studied, thus placing her neatly among the long line of authors who have drawn inspiration from the historic English university city.
